Friday and Fathers

Here it is again – Friday Friday!  Sadly, this Friday is just not as bouncy and exciting to welcome since Rebecca Black took down her Friday Friday music video from YouTube yesterday.  The good thing is that the song is so ingrained in our brains that we will never be able to forget it!

But hey, it’s still Friday and that is something to get pumped about, and the best part for me is that I finally get to head back to the homestead after finishing up my Atlantic coast tour – starting the week in Orlando and ending up the week in Portland. Unfortunately there were no stops in between!

Oh, and then there’s this little thing this weekend called Father’s Day – which with the advent and popularity of business casual is becoming a much harder day to celebrate.  I mean no more reasons to get a new tie!  I am personally hoping I can celebrate the day with some new boxers and undershirts!  But seriously, it’s a great time to celebrate the importance and power of our fathers not just because “I r one”, but because they have a profound impact on our lives.  And if you don’t mind, I will give a big shout out of thanks to my father, who happens to be a frequent reader of this blog – “Thanks Dad! for your great example and encouragement through out the years!”

So make sure you take a moment to appreciate the fathers that are around you this weekend and remember that Father that we all share – the father and creator of us all, and keep a song in your heart!

“Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling.” Psalm 68:4-5 NIV

Shadows

I thought I had a really great thought this morning about being in Orlando, and being right on the edge of Disney World and how that could have  some symbolic meaning about being close to something that you really loved that you couldn’t get.

And then I thought about how at the Holy Lands Park on Monday they recreated the crucifixion and the resurrection of Christ and his second coming, and again how that was just like a tease since it was something that we lots of us look forward to, but alas it is not here yet.

So I thought I had a great thought about shadows and how those glimpses into the future keep us motivated to keep moving.  I even thought that this verse in Colossians would be great for that,

17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ Colossians 2:17

But it was just a shadow of a thought, a passing glimpse, not even a real post, so I will just share this encouraging verse today instead:

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:15-17

A Riddle About Time

Well, let me first apologize for no email yesterday.  There was a post, but as you can see from the post, I was in an awkward spot when I was composing that one, plus I was posting later in the day.  As things were turn out  I was unable to change the email delivery time remotely.  But I am connected again today.

And today my time started on the wrong side of the day, or I should say my clock thought it was the evening when I needed it to it to think it was the morning – all of that riddle to say I am rushing just a bit this morning, as I head off for a remarkable day of discussing the merits of process modeling.

Anyway, I think if you subscribe by email you will get a double dose today, so make sure you check out both.  And if on this ides of June you are rushing around as I am take a moment and consider this verse.

19 When anxiety was great within me,
your consolation brought me joy. Psalm 94:19 New International Version (NIV)

Speeding Thoughts

I am very late today as am traveling today and even now am posting this from the middle of I 75 somewhere in Florida.

I was blessed yesterday to spend the day with a group of fifth graders explorer some truths of God’s in quite am interesting theme park in Orlando called the Holy Land Experience.

Since I am typing this while riding down the rode i will still meed to be short today.

So just i thought i would share one thought the kids pointed out last night. They noticed this quote hanging in the park, enough that they wrote it down. It seemed pretty ‘shareworthy’. So enjoy this and spend some time considering this today

8 The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.” Isaiah 40:8

A Quick Pick

This morning I am getting a few fifth graders up and moving and heading out for a day, and you can guess that takes some time and energy.

So this morning I thought i would play a game of pick it and found this verse in Titus

11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
.12 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good.

So on this Monday lets be eager to do what is good. Have a great day.
