Go Tell It on the Mountain!

Here’s a great one that may come back up again just for fun.  I prefer this one done Blue Grass style, but was not able to turn up the exact rendition I was looking for this morning.  Here’s Crowder Telling it from the Mountain!

He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall,
And if I am a Christian,
I am the least of all.
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

O Come all Ye Faithful!

We’ve seen him.  He’s come!  Let’s go see the baby King!

This one was hard, had there are so many great renditions of this song. I thought about the classic Bing, but to show the breadth of my musical spectrum, here’s a grand performance of this favorite by Josh Groban!

O Come All Ye Faithful
Joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him,
Born the King of Angels;
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

And then tell others the good news!

Salvation is here, life change is here, freedom is here! What a happy morning!

15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”

16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Luke 2 NIV

Hark!!

Spotify notified me this morning that new Rend Collective album was now available, so I am in the Rend mood this morning after harking to them all morning!  So, let us hark (or listen) and sing along with the angels as they sing songs that bring glory to the new born king!  Here’s Rend Collective’s  version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing

13-14 At once the angel was joined by a huge angelic choir singing God’s praises:

Glory to God in the heavenly heights,
Peace to all men and women on earth who please him. Luke 2:13-14 The Message (MSG)

Another Christmas

How about some new music today.  You will have to have Spotify or iTunes to get this one.  Take a listen to this little tune from Over the Rhine’s new album Blood Oranges in the Snow.  The song is Another Christmas.  It’s not a traditional Christmas hymn, but  it is full of  nice sounds and  powerful lyrics like these

‘Cause we’ve committed every sin
And each one leaves a different scar
It’s just the world we’re living in
And we could use a guiding star

I hope that we can still believe
The Christ child holds a gift for us
Are we able to receive
Peace on earth this Christmas

As we skirt through December, let us remember the importance of the guiding star that led us to the little bundle of salvation called the baby Jesus. And let us have Peace on Earth this Christmas!

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2 KJV

O Come, O Come

For Day 2 here’s a nice Acapella version of an Advent favorite!  And most of you know how much I love acapella versions of music!  It’s the best!

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice ! Rejoice ! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

Yeah! This is something to Rejoice over!

14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Isaiah 7:14 (NIV)
