The Peace Carol

One of the great things about Christmas carols is that their timelessness can take us back to Christmases past.  I believe that in itself can make Christmas special.  So reaching back in the archives of my Christmases gone by  are two versions ( 1 and 2 ) of John Denver and the Muppets singing the Peace Carol.  Such a great song with such great meaning!  AND MUPPETS!!

The hope that has slumbered for two thousand years
The promise that silenced a thousand fears
A faith that can hobble an ocean of tears
The peace of Christmas Day

Yummy Cookies

As I mentioned earlier this week, I am fixated  on songs about the waiting for and the coming of the Christ this season.  So today, since Christmas is now just one week away, here’s another song about waiting for the coming!

Tidings of Comfort and Joy

It’s Wednesday, so how about a classic that will bring us all comfort and joy.  Bing Crosby’s God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman from way back in 1942.

God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember, Christ, our Saviour
Was born on Christmas day
To save us all from Satan’s power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy,
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Come to Us

It is interesting to me how some Christmas seasons some songs take on more meaning than others.  I find myself having a new favorite Christmas song each December. Sometimes it even changes as the month goes on.  For instance, this year I have sort of kicked Jingle Bell Rock complete to the curb ( it reminds me of Home Alone) and have found songs about His coming on the front of my mind.  I can’t get enough of Come O Come Emmanuel, no matter the version.  And like that is this song from Young Oceans – Come to Us O Lord.

Our Shepherd King; please come and dwell with us
To fields of grace; lead on

And we will stand,
Securely in the strength of the Lord
Every heart will surely come and adore
The Great I Am

This song has a nice song and although not traditionally a Christmas song, it’s definitely well versed in the coming on the Lord and our dependence on his coming!

Prince of Peace, Emmanuel
Lord draw us close, unto Thyself
King of kings, God’s chosen One
We need You now; to Thee we run

Very Nice! Let us run his direction!

For at just the right time Christ will be revealed from heaven by the blessed and only almighty God, the King of all kings and Lord of all lords. 1 Tim 6:15 NLT

Away in a Manger

Just a quick revisit on the weekend’s date thing.  It’ was pretty awesome that there was a baby born at 10:11 of 12-13-14.  That child will always be punctual I am sure!

Speaking of children being born, here’s Away in the Manger to remind us of a little baby whose birth was also timely!  I have been listening to Kim Walker-Smith’s version a lot this December.  However, there are so many good renditions of this favorite. Like this and this.

7 and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them. Luke 2:7 (NIV)

Pay attention to the last verse, as it includes a prayer that all Christ followers will have no problem singing each day!

Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask Thee to stay
Close by me forever and love me I pray
Bless all the dear children in Thy tender care
And take us to heaven to live with Thee there

Sort of reminds me of these words…

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. [James 4:8a ESV]
