Shiver Me Timbers – TLAPD 2014

Ahoy, me Hearties! ‘Tis be here once again. Th’ day when I git to be tellin’ a tale wit’ words ye nah could imagine. Aye, it be ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day and here be the scuttlebutt.

Avast ye, in thar past me told ye ‘bout th’ Scurvy Dog who walked th’ plank. Today, me thinks me be tellin’ ‘bout that barnacle-covered soul, Paul.

This scallywag be lootin’ booty from followers o’ th’ Christ all through th’ land. He marched around wit’ his letters o’ marque takin’ no quarter. He be plunderin, pillagin’ and hornswagglin’ all across th’ land. ‘Til one day on his way to blow th’ man down, this landlubber meets the ghost on our quartermaster on the road he be walkin’, though he be supposed in Davy Jones’ Locker. The spirit of th’ Christ says “Why are you makin’ me walk th’ plank day aft day”.

Ahoy, Paul be blinded by the light fer days. The knave went without grub or grog, like he be three sheets to the wind, pondering the shot across his bow. Then, th’ bucco Ananias be givin’ him the rutters about this Christ fellow and he scuppered his old life right then and there. He be sailin’ far and wide spreadin’ the scuttlebutt o’ the Christ and the change that be his life.

It be for ye as well. Bring a spring upon her cable, and go on account with th’ Christ. Give up the false bounty and the black spot. Be ye searching for real treasure!

33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be ministered unto you. Matthew 6:33 1599 Geneva Bible (GNV)

Men with Bread

I stopped by Panera Bread for breakfast early this morning on the way to the office. I order my sandwich and provided the cashier Emily the number for my myPanera card. Then I turned around to see an awesome sight. Throughout the restaurant I witnessed four different groups of men eating, sharing, studying and praying together. This made me extremely happy. As I was alone, I was tempted to join one of the groups, but instead positioned myself where I could eavesdrop on a few of the conversations. (I learned that skill from my most excellent wife). Anyway, I loved what I heard, and it was so encouraging to me to see these guys sharing their lives together!

Great job guys!

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭27‬:‭17‬ KJV)

Oh way the way, get ready. Tomorrow is Talk Like a Pirate Day!!! Yes!

Hey Mike, Mike, Mike…

I was walking to my cube space this morning when I a co-worker came around the corner. We started the normal early morning meaningless banter, when I mentioned “Hey, It’s Hump Day”. (I said that because I thought in my mind that it felt like Monday!!)
Anyway, to my surprise, the guy looked completed stunned. He had no idea what Hump Day was!

So if you don’t know – Hump Day is Wednesday!

And if you do! Have a great Wednesday, and realize that everyone doesn’t know!!!

( and I am not just talking about Hump Day!)

19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. Matthew 28:19-20

National Guacamole Day

Hey hey, it’s National Guacamole Day!  This is good stuff!

So, I did my normal and ask The Google to relate the Bible and Guacamole.  And this masterpiece is what I found

https://twitter.com/dragnut/status/491302069756624896

I agree Ray. Why is it extra! It’s so not biblical.

At least it is free at Salsaritas today, ‘members only’ however!

Which is not like this bit of life topping that is always free – to everyone, on everyday!

7 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. Rev 22:17

Anything Else

I was on a call with a vendor last week discussing a software issue.  We were discussing with the vendor about a piece of code that appeared to be misbehaving. The source of the problem could be debatable.    There was a new representative of the vendor on the phone, whom I had not spoken with before.  I was so impressed with the guy.  He demeanor so calm and helpful, when he could have taken a very defensive position.  And then at the end of the call I was so shocked as he cheerfully said

“Is there anything else?”

The question was asked with such winsomeness and joy that I was completely taken back. It was as if  he was really wanted to know if we had any other issues to discuss.  Very Nice.

I thought is was a great example of the type of leadership and interact that Jesus tells his guys about in Mark 10, after they attempt to build themselves up a bit.

42Calling them to Himself, Jesus said to them, “You know that those who are recognized as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them; and their great men exercise authority over them. 43But it is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant; 44and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be slave of all. 45For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” Mark 10 NASB

I don’t fault James and John any.  We tend to spend a little more time thinking about ourselves more than others.  But man,  the Christ gives us a challenge.  And a difficult one at that!   Just imagine if we rose to that challenge every day and continue asked those around is “Is there anything else?”
