Using your Strengths

It’s another day, another chance to take on the world and overcome it!  It’s another day to show our strength.  But for which purpose – to move ourselves forward, or to help others?

Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?” Romans 15:2 MSG

Today ask how can I help, and then let God work as your strength goes to work in amazing ways for others!

Instant Pudding!

Its National Vanilla Pudding Day!

What’s that got to do with anything?  I am not sure, outside of my sudden urge for Banana Pudding!  hm, can’t you taste the ‘nanas and the ‘nilla wafers already?

Well, I do know that it’s also a clear example of how much freedom we have – a day for pudding! Or is it actually an example of how we have used our freedom for such much more – sometimes the wrong things.  Take a minute to watch this video that introduced jello pudding way back in the 1950’s

Phew, busy!

Let’s take a moment on Vanilla Pudding Day and consider why it is that we even need instant desserts!  How are you using your time today?

It is absolutely clear that God has called you to a free life. Just make sure that you don’t use this freedom as an excuse to do whatever you want to do and destroy your freedom.  Galatians 5:13 MSG

Pressing On

It’s another day, and it’s time to get on the grind.  But let’s make sure we are working for something that has some value, like this

12-14 I’m not saying that I have this all together, that I have it made. But I am well on my way, reaching out for Christ, who has so wondrously reached out for me. Friends, don’t get me wrong: By no means do I count myself an expert in all of this, but I’ve got my eye on the goal, where God is beckoning us onward—to Jesus. I’m off and running, and I’m not turning back.   Philippians 3:12 (MSG)

Upbeat

I remember writing down a comment in my bible a little over twenty years ago about a particular book being upbeat and full of encouragement. So this morning I dug out that book and found the comment.  The comment was about the book of 3 John and it actually says this “Good book to read before exalting someone. Very upbeat book.”  Now, because my mind is so worn, I don’t remember the professor who provided me those works, but I do see this older bit of encourage from John

Do not imitate what is evil but what is good. – 3 John 11

That’s some upbeat we can strive for today.  Find the good and duplicate it!

Comparisons

On of the main points of this blog is to help me change and transform into a something more reflective of the Christ.   On of the other main points is to help  you do the same!   To that point, I read this bit of advice this morning, and I find it extremely helpful on a Friday as a way to help measure that transformation.

Avoid comparison to others – it’s demotivating and inaccurate. Compare today’s you to yesterday’s you instead.

How are you doing compared to that all used up yesterday you?  Make today a day that leaves that guy behind and moves you forward, even just the slightest bit.  And don’t worry about the other guys!

Keep your eyes on Jesus, who both began and finished this race we’re in. Study how he did it. Because he never lost sight of where he was headed  Hebrews 12:2 MSG
