Attitude of Gratitude

On Friday night a few new Sponge Bob episodes where released. Thanks to the power of DVR, I was hanging at at the local DQ enjoying a nice Reese’s Blizzard instead of having to suffer through the commercials of a live airing of Sponge Bob.  But on Saturday, while the boys where eating lunch they spend a little time watching the newly recorded shows.

I find the old sponge to be a little humorous, although it can become a little wearisome at times, but the simpleton continues to produces laughs year after year. In the second episodes from Friday night there was a little inspiration, as Sponge Bob starts off the day with a song.  I song that we could all stand to have stuck in our head:

If you can’t see YouTube at work, try it here latter. You only need to watch the first 1:45.

If you can’t see it, Sponge Bob and his garbage pail friends, drop into a song about an Attitude of Gratitude, or as he says “Oh, I am displaying for all to see an Attitude of Gratitude”
I think thats a good way for us to start this week. Give it a try and display that Attitude of Gratitude. ( and sing the song, its catchy… 🙂 )

15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.  Colossians 3:15-17 (New International Version, ©2011)

American Idol And Other Stuff

Oh its Friday, and that means that brains are tired, bodies are tired and the weekend waits with wonderful weather ahead!  Just as some of those sports writers produce “clean our their notebooks” articles from time to time, today is a serious of random hanging thoughts as well.

  • If case you were worried, the mystery cat was discovered Tuesday night, cornered in our bushes by one of our cats.  He was then spotted on our porch later Tuesday and Wednesday morning.  Since then he has not been seen or heard again!
  • The ice cream sandwich yesterday was great.  I think the box in the freezer will get me through the weekend.  I hope you enjoyed some as well!
  • I am not much of a American Idol fan.  In fact when it comes to reality TV, I am more of a Dancing with the Stars kind of guy ( did I just type that?).  However, last night I did watch and felt quite a connection.  First is was in Nashville, where I spend 4 years getting learned.  Second, a great friend of mine ( and fellow daily buffeter) made an appearance celebrating with her Hollywood bound niece. And finally, the last winner of the night was from the little town in which I reside!  It was like Old Home Days on American Idol last night!
  • Speaking of American Idol, I guess they must air different cities to different areas of the country?  I watched Nashville last night, but my good friend in Michigan twitted about this story from the Chicago tryouts last night.  It’s a pretty good story of love and dedication.  I will share it from the blog that he shared, a professor at Abilene Christian U, it’s worth the few minutes to watch.

Have a great day out there and remember to model Christ, for instance:

3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. Philippians 2:3-4 (New International Version, ©2010)

Ice Cream Sandwiches

This morning Amy asked me what I wanted for dinner, I responded with the first thing that came to my head – Ice Cream Sandwiches.  I love those things.  They are the best in the world.  I don’t eat them as often as I wish, but man, when I do , I could eat the whole box.  Then there are the ones that are found in Disney World.  Personally, I find that the one’s distributed from Sleepy Hallow are in fact the best in the world, and make watching a Disney parade even more enjoyable.  I mean just look at the picture.  Yum.  If we could just eat those all the time, day and night – what a great world it would be!

So go ahead – at lunch today, as you walk past that little cooler with the ice cream treats, slide open the lid, and reach in for a nice ice cream sandwich!  As you enjoy the super taste and fulfillment that only comes from consuming one of these babies, consider what would happen to your body if that was all you ate.  And then consider your spiritual life.  As you eat, think about your spiritual diet and if there are things that you need to change to help you truly transform!  Taking hold of the pinnacle of handheld deserts everyonce in a while is great, but as we know there are other things we need.  Use The Sandwich to help spurn you to continue your quest for deeper knowledge and for true transformation!

13 Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. 14 But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil. Hebrews 5:13-14 (New International Version, ©2010)

No Name Calling Week

Oh how could I forget, I am so dumb. How could all you you ‘people’ out there not remind me. It’s No Name Calling Week. Come on you bunch of …. whoa whoa, its No Name Calling Week, I can’t do that.

This is a good thing, as bullying is a huge problem with our children and well, even with adults. Of course, we can help combat that by teaching our children to treat each other with respect.
We all know the old adage “Sticks and Stones will break my bones, but names will NEVER hurt me.”

(While we are talking about this playground sayings, I sort of liked “I’m rubber, your glue what you say bounces off me and sticks to you!”)

Anyway, back to stick and stones. Although there can be some truth to old saying, and that statement is still worth considering, in that the words of others do not form us unless we let them. However, that’s the problem, its is hard to turn those words into affirmation, and thus the modern adage is now “Sticks and Stones will break my bones but names call also hurt me” or something like that. Maybe its “..but names can destroy me”, or …”but names will break my heart” Yes, I think that’s the proper way to say it today “Sticks and stones will break my bones, but names will break my heart.”

8The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. (Proverbs 18:8, King James Version)

However, look at this:

24Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. (Proverbs 16:24, King James Version)

So, as you go about today, remember the power of the words that you use, and consider what I tell my children when their behavior is, well not what it should be. I always say, would you want to be treated that way?

31 Do to others as you would have them do to you. Luke 6:31 (New International Version, ©2010)

Lo Is A Funny Way To Start A Sentence

This morning as the rain fell, I was awaken by the cries and meows of a cat. Cries that seems to be desperate. Being the owner of two felines, I thought it best to see if the retorter was one of mine. So I began a fruitless search. I opened every door in the house to see if he was trapped in a room. I opened every outside door, and even took a little stroll in the rain looking for the kitties to no avail. Finally, I returned to the garage where I has previous discovered one of the cats up on his perch and upon opening the door again the undiscovered kitty showed himself – unharmed.

Who knows which cat was making noise before the crack of down this morning, but while I was searching around, I thought about someother searching that goes on in our lives ( you didn’t see that one coming did you!) Sometimes, we are out searching around, when the thing we are searching for is standing right at the door.

20lo, I have stood at the door, and I knock; if any one may hear my voice, and may open the door, I will come in unto him, and will sup with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20, Young’s Literal Translation)

What is crazy about our search for spiriutaly safety is that the savior stands at the door, and waits, and he is not hard to find. Definitely not as hard to find a exclusive kitty.

7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:7-9 (New International Version, ©2010)

If you are searching today, just remember the promise that you will find Him.
