Verbs of Quest

Last night I spent a little time talking with my small group about seeking God and the impact it has on our lives when we set time, large or small amounts, aside each day to listen and earnest seek after God.  Lot to check off a check list of prayers or rituals, but to continue to develop the relationship with Him.

Take a look at the verbs in this Proverbs.  Look at how intense each one is.  Notice the action and activity they express.

The Benefits of Wisdom

2 My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.  Proverbs 2:1-5

And now go back and look at the reward!  Make time for these verbs today, and each day as you buffet your body, and set out on a quest to really know God!

Pi Day 2012

Woot woot, its Pi Day.  I am not sure I can beat the creativity I discovered in last years post, so you may want to read it again!  Nonetheless, I will try my hand at Pi Day this year.

Did you know that the Bible references Pi?  Yeah back in 1 Kings,

23And he made a molten sea, ten cubits from the one brim to the other: it was round all about, and his height was five cubits: and a line of thirty cubits did compass it round about

30/10 = 3.  It’s an approximation, but such that a cubit is an approximation as well, it may have been more accurate than we think!

You some other great facts and information about the favorite constant of mathematicians everywhere here.

And to close out, I decided to check out a 3:14 verse from Proverbs, which happens to say

14 for she is more profitable than silver
and yields better returns than gold. Proverbs 3:14 New International Version (NIV)
Who is the she, the proverb refers to?  Wisdom.  hm, that seems proper today.  Give that some thought, and eat some Pi, and enjoy the day.

A Carry Over From Yesterday

Just following up with one more thought about numbering days and living wisely.  I think these words of James may say it better than me..

13-16Do you want to be counted wise, to build a reputation for wisdom? Here’s what you do: Live well, live wisely, live humbly. It’s the way you live, not the way you talk, that counts. Mean-spirited ambition isn’t wisdom. Boasting that you are wise isn’t wisdom. Twisting the truth to make yourselves sound wise isn’t wisdom. It’s the furthest thing from wisdom—it’s animal cunning, devilish conniving. Whenever you’re trying to look better than others or get the better of others, things fall apart and everyone ends up at the others’ throats. James 3:13 The Message (MSG)

Let us live well today!!
