Iced Tea Day!

It’s a depressingly dark and rainy morning as I stare out the window for a thought to get the day started, but then I remember that it is International Sweet Tea day!  Well it’s actually National Iced Tea day, but what good is tea when it’s not sweet? Anyway, on June 10, 1904 at the St Louis Worlds fair, it seems they purveyors of the fair claim they invented iced tea – thus creating this glorious day. However, upon further inspection, like this bit of history here, it can be understood that those in the South were serving sweet tea long before 1904!

Tea Choice!

No matter, just get out there and kick back and refresh yourself by enjoying some iced tea today, remember it is the gentleman’s drink.

Oh and speaking of being refreshed, maybe this will be iced tea to your spirit!

For I will satisfy the weary soul, and every languishing soul I will replenish. Jeremiah 31:25 ESV

Life is Good Today

My sleepy little head was awoken this morning by The Zac Brown Band’s little diddy “Toes in the Water.” I laid there for a few minutes wishing I was on the beach and far away for the ‘normal’ days of life, until I eventually convinced myself that I could not just be singing the song magically travel to the beach.

However, I could not get the song out of my head, and I started wondering why I could not approach today like a day at the beach and forgot about the struggles of raising a teenager, the boundaries at work and the fact that I don’t have a money tree growing in my back yard.  It’s going to be a stretch, but I thought I might give it a try.

So, while I ironed by shirt I penned this adaptation to Zac’s words:

I got my toes in my loafers,

I am stuck on the tele,

Not a worry in the world,

I bought my sweet tea from Shelly

Yeah! That’s good stuff!.  (Amy commented that it maybe have to go on the greatest hits album, I am not sure I she convinced me, but I like it! 🙂 )

Life is good today!  Those little worries mean nothing compared to the promise we live with!  So how about you, post your adaptation of Zac’s song and make today a day at the beach.

9-10 I’m happy from the inside out,
and from the outside in, I’m firmly formed.
You canceled my ticket to hell—
that’s not my destination!

11 Now you’ve got my feet on the life path,
all radiant from the shining of your face.
Ever since you took my hand,
I’m on the right way.  Psalm 16:9-11 The Message (MSG)

(Oh and actually I by my sweet tea from Michelle, but I didn’t want make the verse rhyme with that – that could have been a little negative!)

The Gentlemen’s Drink

Oh I love me some Sweet Tea, so when I saw this morning woot! shirt, I just could not not be excited.( yes, Mr Henderson, that’s a double negative, which means I am very excited about this particular shirt.)

Most of you now that I start my day with a nice healthy jug of sweet tea, which I can now refer to as the gentleman’s coffee.  Yes, yes, I know this shirt is referring to hot tea, not the good old Southern sweeten and iced version! But hey, we can draw conclusions can’t we?

But as much as I like sweet tea, its not really what gets me going in the morning.  It’s not really the thirst quencher that I desire the most to get my day going, and to carry my spirit through the day.  No, my “drink”” of choice is not a drink at all.

13 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13-14, New International Version, ©2011)

Yep, my drink of choice is the living water that takes away my spiritual thirst, keeps me hydrated and moving forward, highly motivated to impact others.

And as my sons’ soccer coaches say

Hydrate, or die.
