It’s Signing Day – 2014!!!

YES! It’s that time of year again.  It’s the time with college football fans everywhere place all their hopes and dreams of the next 4 or 5 years in the hands of high school seniors.  That’s right, it’s Signing Day. wOOt wOOt!

I have written about this in the past and those posts are probably a lot better than today’s, so you may want to re read them here and here.

But seriously, this recruiting thing is funny.  Kids waver today, kids sign up, fans get overly excited and the hype machine gets in full swing.  As I mentioned the hope and dreams of the next half decade of your school’s football program hang in the balance today.  That is of course, unless the coach leaves, or  the player leaves, or well a plethora of  something elses.  But still, we have hope!!!!

I am actually pretty excited about today for my team, but I also realize that my hope is steadfastly some place else.

19 This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. 20 Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

Sleepy Monday

This is the day of the year that ranks the lowest of my list of days – the Monday after the ridiculous lets steal an hour of sleep from people who don’t get enough sleep night.  Argh!!!  Sort of reminds me of this, from this day 2 years ago!

I just hope I can say today is ‘it was all I hoped it would be!’

Speaking of hope, let’s not forget this as we go out on this tired and lonesome Monday

5 And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:5

and

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have? 25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.  Romans 8:23-25

And remember, that unless, the sky opens and the trumpets sound today, our hope will still be with us on Monday night. As ferocious as this day of the week is, it can’t tear that away from us!

Oh February!

Well, Football is all but over until August ( minus LOI day on Wednesday and the teaser of spring practice) and the groundhog says that spring is on its way.

In the mean time, we are stuck in the doldrums of February

February is merely as long as is needed to pass the time until March.-  Dr. J. R. Stockton

What else can we say, but buckle down, and work the short month away! It’s always a great lesson in hope!

24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD. Psalm 31:24

Dozen Day

oh 12!  What a fascinating number.  There’s the 12 days of Christmas, the 12 tribes of Israel, the 12 innings in a baseball game. ( extra innings of course!)  But really 12 is a number that is used a lot to show divine authority,  governing perfection, and completeness.  It is found as a multiple in all that has to do with rule – 60 minutes, 24 hours, 360 degrees, 12 donuts.

Some think today could be an Apocalyptic day with all of these twelves around.  Just imagine the hysteria on 12/12/12 1212!  Wow, what sort of day must that have been! And it seems to have turned out ok!    But I did want you to know, if this is the end, I will not be posting tomorrow – especially not if there are Zombies around!  You could be reading the last post ever.  ( that is probably more likely next Friday, but more about that then!)

So let celebrate Dozen Day with some donuts from Krispy Kreme and a look at the life of a Christian from Romans 12

12 Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying. Romans 12:12 New Living Translation (NLT)

A Friday Prayer

Here is a good prayer for Friday, and the weekend, borrowed from David.

14 I hope my words and thoughts please you.

Lord, you are my Rock, the one who saves me.  Psalm 19:14 New Century Version (NCV)
