Cereal with Marshmallows on Top

This morning my whole household was running late. It could be the rainy spring mornings, or maybe it really was draining on them while I was out of town. Anyway, the eldest child did not have time for his normal frozen waffles and so therefore I bagged up some breakfast cereal for him to take on the go. I also threw a few chocolate sprinkled marshmallows and 2 mini Reese’s Cups in the bag. For breakfast? what sort of parent gives a child candy in the morning? A bad one I am sure. I merely assumed that finding a special and odd item in the bag way add a little bit to his day and get it off to a better start.

So it should be in our days. As we go about interacting with people, we need to be the special thing in the bag of the day. The odd and unique and out of place item that brings a smile to their face and makes their day better. Add a little extra sweetness around you today!

24Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. (Proverbs 16:24, King James Version)

Shining like Cereal???

Somehow I started receiving a daily email called Geek Today or Your Daily Geekness or something like that.  I am not even sure how I got on the mailing list, I guess my geekiness proceeds me.  Either way, a few days again this email pointed me to the video below.

That’s right – Cereal boxes that light up! Can you believe that! I just can’t help thinking about the words of the Christ in Matthew where he instructs those listening as follows:

14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 (New International Version, ©2010)

I would love to have my cereal boxes remind me each day that I am too be the light to the world.  It sure stands to reason that if even a cereal box can produce light, then I should be able to as well.

I write this today and refer to this verse as I often do to encourage myself, because as Paul says, “I have not attained this” in any way yet! Anyway, spend a little time considering wireless power and light up cereal boxes and hopefully you get a little encouragement from them to let your light shine.

So.. coming to a breakfast table near you soon…

Colorful Frosty Friday

Colors on a Frosty Morning ( click for a larger version)

After I slapped out a plate of frozen waffles for my eldest to consume for breakfast this morning, I took a gander out to back windows to see this magnificent view above.  There’s nothing like the winter sunrise, especially when the sky is clear and dark blue.

It’s pretty impressive each day to see the light overcome the darkness each morning.  Its such a sign of hope and newness and in some ways a remember of our smallness.

Anyway, I hope that you find some enjoyment from that this morning, and that your Frosty Friday gets off to just as much of a colorful start.

And since it’s Friday let’s get the weekend going with a little Psalm of humility and praise from good ol’ King David.

4 “Show me, LORD, my life’s end

and the number of my days;
let me know how fleeting my life is.
5 You have made my days a mere handbreadth;
the span of my years is as nothing before you.
Everyone is but a breath,
even those who seem secure.

6 “Surely everyone goes around like a mere phantom;
in vain they rush about, heaping up wealth
without knowing whose it will finally be.

7 “But now, Lord, what do I look for?
My hope is in you.
Psalm 39:4-7 (New International Version, ©2010)
